Green tourism – Ca Mau Cape National Park
Ca Mau – the southernmost land of Vietnam is the interference of forest and the sea. Coming to Ca Mau, tourists will be attracted by the vast ecotourism space with a system of rivers, canals intermingled with extensive melaleuca forests and mangrove forests of the biosphere reserve, World Ramsar side. In particular, Ca Mau Cape National Park is one of the unique natural geological and geomorphic sites, creating a unique coastal and estuary ecology region.
Ca Mau Cape National Park was established in 2003 with a total natural area of 41,862 hectares, of which land area is 15,262 hectares and coastal area is 26,600 hectares. It is located in Nam Can and Ngoc Hien districts: 04 communes: Dat Mui, Vien An (Ngoc Hien district); Lam Hai, Dat Moi (Nam Can district). It is is about 100 kilometers from Ca Mau city in the direction of Nam Can district to Dat Mui tourism area.
Geographically, Ca Mau Cape National Park is bounded by the sea in three sides. It is the interference between the Eastern Sea and the Western sea and is affected by both tidal regimes: diurnal vs. semi-diurnal tides. Every year, the mudflats encroach on tens of meters, which is a favorable condition for plant and animal species to develop. Ca Mau Cape National Park has 27/32 species of mangroves, 93 species of birds, 26 species of mammals, 43 species of reptiles, 09 species of amphibians, 139 species of fish, 53 species, 63 mollusca species, 49 species of planktons and many species are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world.
On May 26, 2009, Ca Mau Cape National Park was officially recognized as Ca Mau Cape World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO (area: 371,500 ha). Moreover, Ca Mau Cape National Park is recognized as the 5th Ramsar Site in Vietnam and the 2,088th Ramsar Site in the world by the Ramsar Convention Secretariat.
The rich and diverse tourism resources, especially the mangrove ecosystems in Dat Mui, Ca Mau Cape National Park, can be developed types of tourism such as: ecotourism, Sightseeing, research, experience tourism, etc. Coming to Ca Mau Cape National Park, visitors can also participate in some leisure services from community tourism households and experience activities such as shrimp catching, crab fishing, fishing, crab-basket placing, Vop catching and looking for oysters along with local people. Moreover, visitors can also row a boat into the forests and canals. At night, visitors may enjoy the services from Amateur music artists and sing Cai Luong. Sleeping here in a cool and wild close- to- nature air is a great pleasure.
With the desire to create more tourism products to serve visitors, Ca Mau Cape National Park is promoting product development, especially solutions to develop sustainable tourism along with protection of natural resources and forest environment.
