Mekong Delta Tourism Association recognizes the typical tourism destinations of Mekong Delta in Ca Mau

On October 05, 2017, the work group of Mekong Delta Tourism Association led by Mr. Le Thanh Phong – Deputy Standing Chairman visited Muoi Ngot Community Ecotourism Area and re-appraised to re-recognize Ca Mau Cape Tourism- Culture Park as the Tourism Area. The members of the survey team were Mr. Ho Ngoc Tan, Deputy Director of Ca Mau Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Le Van Dung, Director of Ca Mau Province Tourism Information and Promotion Center.

Through the field survey and the report, the work group highly appreciated the potentialities of the tourism area as well as the local efforts to exploit, use and promote humanitarian- ecological values in construction and development of tourism products of Ca Mau Province in particular and the Mekong Delta in general. In addition, the group has pointed out some tourism development directions to improve the quality of services, diversify tourism products in Ca Mau Province.

The registration and selection of the typical tourism destinations of the Mekong Delta is a positive activity that promotes the appearance of local tourism as well as contributes to the tourism development in the region. Promotion creates favorable conditions for selecting typical tourism destinations of the Mekong Delta is an opportunity to promote the image of Ca Mau tourism as well as create a driving force for the tourism business units in the province to strive to improve their service quality and better serve domestic and international tourists.

The Mekong Delta’s typical tourism destinations must have unique tourism resources and outstanding tourism products and services of the region, be capable of attracting and satisfying the visitors’ needs of sightseeing, convalescence, recreation and entertainment. In order to be accredited as the Mekong Delta’s typical tourism destination, the destinations must meet the Juding Board’s criteria for area conditions, number of visitors, services, requirements for fire protection, food safety and sanitation; Qualifications of managers and tourguides, etc. According to the regulations, the time limit for re-evaluation of the Mekong Delta’s typical tourism areas is 3 years from the date of the latest recognition.

SOUTHERN AMATEUR MUSIC- SPECIAL TOURISM PRODUCT OF CA MAU CAPE

Tourism is considered as a special economic sector. In addition to serving the needs of relaxation and recreation of people to collect economic benefits, tourism plays an important role in preserving and promoting the cultural values ​​and identity of the ethnic group, region, territory and locality. In the Mekong Delta, there is a kind of cultural heritage that has been ingeniously incorporated into the unique tourism product to serve tourists all over the country. It is Southern Amateur Music.

At the 8th Intergovernmental Convention on the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan on December 2-8, 2013, Southern Amateur Music was recognized as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the humankind by UNESCO. Taking this opportunity and in order to better meet the expectations of tourists, travel businesses and destination communities in the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta has attempted to bring Amateur Music to tourists.

In that trend, on September 30th, 2017, the Management Board of Dat Mui – Ca Mau Tourism Area held a introduction ceremony of the Southern Amateur Music Club to tourists to visit and experience at Ca Mau Cape Culture- Tourism Park. The ceremony was attended by the leaders of Ca Mau Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tourism Information and Promotion Center, Province Culture Center and the tourism units and tourists.

The Southern Amateur Music contains all Vietnamese cultural values ​​with its own diverse characteristics. The Amateur Music art is both professional and amateur. These characteristics are expressed boldly through the form of organization and operation, the language of art, cultural space, habits, music-playing fingers, voices, communication, the harmony in the soul with the joys, sadness, love and affection of the participants.

The Southern Amateur Music club of Dat Mui Tourism Area is a useful playground for enthusiasts of this traditional art form to exchange in music and lyrics. It is a special highlight for Dat Mui tourism product. Coming here, visitors are not only immersed in each chanty, “think of the past” tune but also have the opportunity to exchange and show their music talent. The passion for art eliminates the social boundaries; bring the members together in the context of a lyrical and romantic nature to feel the sacred beauty of the southernmost land of the Fatherland.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Trieu, Chairman of the Club, in addition to preserving the intangible cultural heritage of the humankind, it is also a place for talented musicians to serve domestic and international tourists to Dat Mui tourism area.

Dong Tam coffee – Relaxing moment – The meaning of the National historical relic – Hong Anh Thu Quan- Ca Mau

If you have a chance to visit Ca Mau city at different times of the day, visitors will enjoy the space and interesting entertainment aspects of a developed urban area in the southern pole of Vietnam. These are the moments of the afternoon when each flock of white stork flew down the bird garden in the heart of the city; the bustling atmosphere of the night market, park, square crowed with people and a quiet morning in the coffee shops with a variety of different decorations.

Ca Mau has many coffee shops but the coffee shop with different colors that brings visitors a new feeling is located at the National historical relic- Hong Anh Thu Quan. Hong Anh Thu Quan located at No. 43, Pham Van Ky Street, Ward 2, Ca Mau City is the place where the Revolutionary Youth Association was founded and the Marxism-Leninism bookstore was opened in January, 1929 in Ca Mau. This place created a revolutionary enlightenment among the masses and was a place to nurture the elites and loyal members of the Ca Mau Communist Party branch in particular and Communist Party of Vietnam in general.

On September 1, 2017, Ca Mau Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism exhibited materials and artifacts at the National historical relic- Hong Anh Thu Quan. Through the display, the relic also served coffee on the facility of the former Tam Dong Restaurant (now Tam Dong coffee shop). Coming to the space of the coffee shop, visitors will experience the feeling of returning to the glorious history of Ca Mau during the establishment of the first headquarters of Revolutionary Youth Association in Ca Mau Town.

With the unique space arranged into three different display floors- Ground floor, a space for guests to enjoy coffee. Everything is displayed quite impressively which makes visitors feel nostalgic about the historical period of the 30s and 45s of the 20th century. That is the sound of the tape player which still echoes the song of such period, the image of the typewriter, which reminds people of revolutionists who are always busy with printing leaflets, the bookcase with propaganda books for Marxism-Leninism, the Revolutionary way, the life and revolutionary cause with patriots. In addition, there are many other artifacts such as radio, pottery, antique motorcycles, tea pots, Lai Thieu cotton pots, tea trays, antique cups and plates, oil lamps, old musical instruments, etc. are arranged in line with different space.

If in the conversation, there are some moment of leisure, visitors may take the time to visit the first and second floor of the relic. The first floor is a model of restoring the context of the patriots who were discussing the policy, Ca Mau maps of the previous years, etc. On the second floor, visitors will have the opportunity to recalling the historical period as well as the establishment context of Hong Anh Thu Quan and learn more about the revolutionary ideals that Uncle Ho and some of our exemplary revolutionists gave to the Vietnamese revolution.

The relic is located in a busy market with full of items, visitors can stroll and buy their favorite products after enjoying coffee refreshingly.

The difference of Dong Tram coffee shop is the simple and familiar things that visitors can feel in the nostalgic space that is difficult to see at other places. Besides, we can both drink coffee and understand the history of the nation. This is a red address to teach the patriotic tradition of Ca Mau people to the young generation.

In the morning of September 09, 2017, at Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, District 1 (HCMC), Phuong Nam Spring Calendar Co., Ltd in cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association held the award and opening ceremony for the photo exhibition “Vietnam from above”.

The first Vietnamese flycam photography contest attracts the participation of most professional and semi-professional photographers nationwide.

After more than 4 months of launch, the contest has attracted 358 authors from 53 provinces and cities with 3,389 works with various themes from Ca Mau Cape to Tay Bac, from sea and island to mountain and forest, etc. From above, Vietnam appears with a fascinating beauty.

 Honored to receive the first prize with “Ca Mau Cape” photo, the photographer Nguyen Vinh Hien (Vinh Long) said: “This photo was taken in an afternoon at the end of 2016. I “ambushed” there until the third day, the photo was taken. It was 17 :00 p.m, the evening clouds were very strange and beautiful, not too sunny nor too dark. The yellow sunlight and harmonious structure created the best photo for me. When shooting, I had a few minutes of tears because I knew that I had just caught a rare moment and I was successful !”

Ca Mau Cape was full of pride, lighting up the pride of the homeland of every Vietnamese who enjoys the photo.

The “salt field” (The second prize) is surprisingly impressed by the color and lines of the central salt field which is like a lacquer painting full of art. The “Silt color” (The second prize) by Nguyen Hoang Nam illustrates the excitement in the daily life of fishers. The “Floating village on Lan Ha Bay” photo (The third prize) by Giang Son Dong made viewers amazed at the multicolored village hidden in the dark green mountain ravines. Reflecting nearly all landscapes from north to south, each photo made viewers surprised.”

According to Mr. Quoc Anh, these excellent photos will be included in the calendar, thereby it will come to every one and the beauty of the elaborate works of photographers will be known by many people.

Ca Mau attended International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City – ITE HCMC 2017

The 13th ITE HCMC 2017 with the theme of “The gateway to Asia tourism” held from the 7th -9th of September at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. This is an important annual event of the tourism industry in Vietnam organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to attract international tourists to Vietnam. The fair attracts the attention of more than 700 international travel companies from 40 countries and regions as well as hundreds of tour operators and resorts in Ho Chi Minh City and 30 provinces in the whole country.

“The 3rd Ca Mau Tourism Beautiful Photo Contest” was launched from June 01, 2017 to August 31, 2017. After nearly three months of launch, the Organizing Committee received 411 works of 22 authors. The contest jury voted on the contest on August 27, 2017 to select the best quality works based on the criteria of the contest such as creativity, novelty, unique, true reflection of the natural beauty, cultural values, heritage, life and people of the Southern pole of the country through the lens of tourism for award and exhibition.

Sweet and soft flavor of Ca Mau bummalo

Ca Mau is a southernmost land of Vietnam. It is bounded by the sea in three sides and the only place on the mainland where we can see the sunrise from the east and the sunset in the west. With its special geographic location, Ca Mau has rich and diversified fishery resources such as shrimps, crabs, fishes, etc. In particular, bummalo is one of popular fishes in Ca Mau. Previously, upon landfall of the fishing boats, fresh bummalos are sold everywhere. Now, a wild dish of coastal people has become a speciality.

Bummalo mainly lives in the sea, sometimes we can see them in the estuary next to the sea. In Ca Mau, bummalo is abundant in Cai Doi Vam town, Phu Tan district. At present, bummalo has been certified as the collective trademark “Cai Doi Vam – Ca Mau bummalo” by the National Office of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Bummalo has a long flat tubular opaque white body, a big head, small eyes and a wide mouth with hard teeth. It has less bones, only one cartilage along the back. Its meat is very soft, sweet and fragrant. It is also called porridge fish. Because it is verry difficult for bummalo to keep fresh in a long time, people think of how to fry it.

Bombay duck (dried bummalo) has become a famous specialty of Cai Doi Vam town. The main season for bombay duck production usually starts in November and until early April in the next year (Lunar calendar).  Bummalo is disembowel and pulled out intestine, cleansed. Then the jaws of two fishes are hooked together and put across the poles to dry in the sunshine. At this time, we will see the image of each dried bummalo platform in the sunshine in the sea region full of sunlight and wind.

Nothing is better than bombay duck grilled on the charcoal stove. After being grilled, beat it evenly for soft fishmeat. This dish is eaten with tamarind fish sauce or fish sauce with vinegar and chili depending on the taste of each person. The sweetness of the bummalo and sourness and spicy of the sauce is an unforgettable great taste.

Many people also processed dried bummalo into raw bummalo. Mango or ambarella is peeled, minced and then cut, then add a little of high-qualitfy fish sauce, sugar, a little of broth mix and grilled bummalo. Add chilli, Vietnamese mint, aromatic herbs to increase the attractiveness.

In addition to drying, fresh bummalo can be processed into various dishes such as hotpot, porridge, fried bummalo with flour, etc.  Each dish has its own flavor but all contain the specific features of honest sea people. Therefore, when you and your family have the opportunity to come to Ca Mau Cape, enjoy the delicious dishes from bummalo or buy them as gifts for colleagues and relatives after the journey to explore this southernmost land of the country!

Bring Ca Mau image to international friends

(CMO) in the first 6 months, there were more than 633,000 visitors to Ca Mau, 102.5% higher than that in the same period of the last year. In particular, there are more than 12,000 international visitors, 114.34% higher than that in the same period. It can be seen Ca Mau tourism is slowly positioning its brand on the tourism map of Vietnam and the world.

Active tourism promotion and advertisment is considered as an important factor contributing to the tourism development of the province.

Multichannel promotion

The Director of Ca Mau Province Tourism Information and Promotion Center, Le Van Dung, said that in the context of integration, the center constantly strived to bring Ca Mau image to domestic and international friends in many ways and through media channels, namely: taking initiative in linking its website to the General Department of Tourism, the Department of Culture – Sports and Tourism, the Trade, Tourism and Investment Pronmotion Centers and the Tourism Promotion Center of the provinces and cities, at the same time, well implementing  the information, support and promotion of Ca Mau tourism.

The center regularly surveys and updates information about tourism areas, routes and sites, tourist products, tourist attractions, tourism and travel agencies, tourism related activities, etc to enhance compilation of articles and introduction images of Ca Mau tourism on its website: www.camautourism.vn and www.camautravel.vn in Vietnamese and English with 99,217 visits in total (English interface: 18,459 visits).

To date, Ca Mau tourism brand has appeared in many events, fairs, festivals, exhibitions, economic forums domestically and internationally, including on films, reportages, television reports made by the provinces and cities at home and abroad.

In addition, the center also updated the new information, completed the re-publication and publication of tourism books such as Ca Mau Cuisine Book (1,000 books), Vietnam-Ca Mau tourism guidebook (1,000 books), Vietnam – Ca Mau tourism map (2,500 copies) and Ca Mau tourism guidebook (1,500 books).

“Tourism publications, in addition to being provided for travel agencies, exhibitions, fairs, events, media agencies, international mission groups of Ca Mau, are introduced to the Universities, colleges, vocational colleges with tourism training program because they are the “tourism ambassadors” in the future who will contribute to bringing the image of Ca Mau to go further,” Mr. Le Van Dung said.

Direction to potentialities

“Although Ca Mau tourism was evaluated to have numerous potentialies to attract investment and sustainable tourism development; the tourism promotion program of the province was promulgated late, leading to the center’s failure to take initiative in consulting the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to implement its contents” said Mr. Le Van Dung.

Besides, tourism information and promotion have many changes but has not spreaded, the resources of businesses are limited in building and promoting brands and tourism products. The brand promotion has not been paid attention. Participation in exhibitions, fairs, exhibitions is slowly innovated. The construction of new tourism products has changed but limited compared to potentialies and strength.

Even so, the center enlisted all resources to create the Ca Mau tourism brand in the heart of every visitor. At present, the number of visitors staying overnight to experience the tourism products gradually increases, especially Dat Mui community tourism area and Muoi Ngot ecotourism area. Visitors left and some came back with the new ones. This is a good sign of the tourism industry because it it has “retained”’ visitors and found a sustainable path for tourism of the province.

Mr. Le Van Dung said, people have understood the tourism business way and still retain themselves to create “What tourist likes but not what they like.”

In 2017, Ca Mau aims to receive 1,240,000 visitors, including 25,000 international visitors with total revenue of 670 billion dong. To achieve this goal, Ca Mau tourism needs to pay more attention to all levels, functional branches as well as the support of tourism enterprises./.

Therefore, the innovation ideas in Resolution No. 92/NQ-CP dated 8/12/2014 by the Government on some solutions to promote tourism development in the new period and Resolution No. 8/NQ-TW dated 16/1/2017 by the Politburo on making tourism become a spearhead economic sector were adopted and institutionalized in the revised Tourism Law adopted by the National Assembly on June 19, 2017. The new elements with high openness are guided synchronous implementation. With the strong commitment of the central government to the local government, the enterprises and people will stimulate potentialities and stimulate tourism breakthrough in the next period.

Firstly, the respect for the principles and market economy rules are shown in the Law. Thereby, the Law regulates the relations associated with tourism as the synthetic service economy with the profound cultural, inter-sector, inter-region, wide and deep integration and high socialization contents. The economic factor and the value rules put the profits as the core and the “cost-profit” relation as the foundation; thereby, creating the driving force to pursue the objective of subjects. This point of view generates a fair, impartial and strict playground under the competition law. The healthy competition trend based on quality, efficiency, brand and reasonable costs shall become prominent. Vice versa, the grabing-away competition is based on the minimum cost, the low-cost tours shall be gradually replaced and eliminated.

Secondly, the new core factor- the dentification of tourists as the center- shall generate the demand-orientation mechanism. The efforts from Supply must meet the level, structure and features of the market demand. The tourists generate demand signals and satisfaction signals for services provided by the service suppliers at the same time. The research and consultancy for the market and tourism products shall be attached importance. The tourism product design and infrastructure development investment program, the procedures for service supply and destination management are oriented at value added to the beneficiary, experience values and satisfaction of tourists.

Thirdly, the role of the state is increasingly evident in planning, inspection and development support, especially in formation of a new balance of the industry structure, inter-sectoral relation and territorial and regional structure. The State has no longer interfered in the economic relations between entities but has given the core factors to stimulate and remove barriers and define transparency of interests and responsibilities; Limited and targeted to eliminate conflicts of interest between sectors, fields, localities and counterparts.

Further, the tourism priority policies reflected in the Tourism Law will raise the tourism awareness in the whole society; provide maximum profits for tourists from visa procedures, airway, road, waterway, railway and destination access conditions and vehicles, activities and tourism experience in a convenient and diverse way;

The policies for removing obstacles, encouraging tourism enterprises will create attractive and strong motivation to attract and improve investment capital in tourism in the coming time. The tourism infrastructure investment explosion, focus on the development of dynamic tourism areas, new destinations with world class brands as well as unique and diverse tourism products will open up a new path for tourism development in Vietnam.

Fifthly, the public-private partnership mechanism is also reflected in the revised Tourism Law. This is the key to attract resources to focus on the goal. The Tourism Development Assistance Fund will benefit from this mechanism and provide incentives for stakeholders and beneficiaries of the Fund’s development programs and projects. Especially the tourism advertisement and promotion will have a fundamental change in efficiency and professionalism.

Sixthly, the state will facilitate the resident community’s participation in tourism development. This potentially huge resource will be mobilized from people. The resident communities will be raised awareness, thereby being facilitated and supported and protected during participation and shared tourism benefits. It can be said it is the institutional innovation in taking advantages of people’s strength for tourism development. The community tourism, agricultural tourism, rural eco-tourism, shared tourism, etc will have strong development conditions. The role and image of the “master” of destination will be formed and honored from the resident community directly or indirectly participating in welcoming and serving tourists with love, pride, self-respect for the homeland and nation.

It can be said that the new opportunity for tourism development is coming from the openness of the guidlines and policies of the Party and the State that has been institutionalized in the Tourism Law. Within the innovative institutional framework, Vietnam tourism will have a strong development commensurate with the great potentiality of the country, people and culture of Vietnam./.

Proposal for linking international tours from Phu Quoc to Can Tho and the Mekong Delta

TTO – Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee proposes to design tours linking Can Tho to the provinces of the Mekong Delta so that tourism products are always new and attract tourists.

Speaking at the meeting of the research team for developing the project for increasing the operation of airlines to Can Tho International Airport on July 12, 2017, Mr. Vo Huy Cuong – Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (Team leader) said that when there was no international route to Can Tho, should international flights be developed in Phu Quoc and then connected to Can Tho and the Mekong Delta?

“Previously, Da Nang aiport had only domestic flights and there were only two flights to Thailand every week but now the situation has changed. Khanh Hoa province did a good job.The Melkong Delta has the fresh air, why can we do?” Mr. Cuong asked.

According to Mr. Cuong, the dialogue mechanism should be opened up with domestic and international airlines, thereby the tourism companies have the opportunity to join. The authorities need to know why they and passengers have not been interested in Can Tho airlines.

At the meeting, the representative of Vietnam Aviation Corporation also said that upon investment, Can Tho international airport was identified as the main gateway of this city and the Mekong Delta.

The statistics show that there are three passenger groups, including business travelers (to save time for doing business), tourists and officials on business trip.

Therefore, it is necessary to have an attraction mechanism for each of these subjects. In particular, it is necessary to encourage officers to use Can Tho airport and design specific products for tourists. Each province should identify their products and create a chain of 4-5 days tourism products for visitors. It is unnecessary to maintain the fruit garden model from one province to another.

In addition, the representative of Vietnam Aviation Corporation also said that it was necessary to establish coordination regulations among provinces in the Mekong Delta in the exploitation of airports because it was the separate airport of not only Can Tho City but also the Mekong Delta.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee, said that Can Tho International Airport belonged to not only Can Tho City but also the Mekong Delta.

According to Mr. Dung, tourism routes should be built to link Can Tho to the provinces of the Mekong Delta so that tourism products were always new and attracted tourists.  Tourism companies played the leading role in this task.

On May 17, 2017, Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam decided to set up a the research team for developing the  project for increasing the operation of airlines to Can Tho International Airport led by Mr. Vo Huy Cuong.

The task of this team is to make the overall assessment on the aviation market to and from Can Tho in particular and the Southwestern region in general; coordinate with tourism agencies and enterprises in setting up the development cooperation programs of aviation and tourism products to and from this region as well as to connect tourists here to domestic and international tourism destinations.

The team also sets up a policy system to assist Vietnam Aviation Corporation and international airlines to develop new routes to Can Tho; establishes a roadmap for investment and upgrading infrastructure of Can Tho airport to step by step become the base for airlines in Vietnam.
